At Cynjim's we had 2 little girls born over the Summer. Cynjim's Posala and Cynjim's Meoquanee. Both are very active & healthy.

This fall, we had a very successful time at the Rochester Fair. From the fair, we met Gary & his family. They ended up purchasing Lakota & Moki. Thank you, and good luck with your alpaca adventure!

We've also had a visitor for a little while. Elvira from Caitlin & Jon's farm (Middleton, NH) came to our farm for weaning & to play with other girls her age. We enjoyed having her here.

Next up was the Coastal Classic, Meghan & Trevor entered their first show. They had a lot of fun & Trevor brought home ribbons in the performance classes. 

Now we are looking forward to the NE Alpaca Holiday Tour. Cynjim's will be joining Elf-Paca Meadows for the open house, Thanksgiving weekend & the first weekend in December.

I understand your question, there are a lot of 'articles' on the web calling alpacas a pyramid scheme. They are not. They are a livestock, just like sheep, cows & horses. They are not for someone looking to get rich quick.  Most legitimate articles will tell you you can get a return on your investment in 2-3 years, if you are a breeder. I made my first sale 2 years after I started, then 1 sale each year the following 2 years, then 3 years without a sale. These were breeding quality females.

Fiber herds can cover their own costs in terms of their fleece sales, if you market & sell it.

We were able to get 13 alpacas done in about 6 hours.  We have 2 more left to do. These will be done on May 16th at the Alpaca Package Resource 5th year anniversary event at Sallie's Fen. For  more details on the event, go to www.alpacapr.com and click on the link on the front page. Our chickens are getting big and need to move out of the house. WE were hoping to move them sooner but there have been a couple of coy-dogs in the neighborhood ( They ripped through two layers of chicken wire to get to my neighbors rabbits) so we are working on a more secure area before we move them out.

Still have some snow on the ground. Most snow should be gone by the first show. All the animals are hunkered down inside the shelters since the wind chill is 20 below. Can't wait to rake up the beans . We will be chasing them all day! Our kids are on a school trip to Belize and they emailed us today saying it is warm and they are getting tanned. I would rather be here with the alpacas

Imagine this it snowed today. Well since the last time we were on this is what has happened. Snow , snow , snow, snow ,snow and a little more snow. But we did have a girl cria born on Janoary 7th during a snow and ice storm. Her name is Elfpaca Meadows Winterberrie {or as we call her Holly } She weighed 12 lbs and was jet black with beatiful fleece. She is healthy and running around the pen bothering all the moms.  We are now getting ready for shows  which we will attending this spring. The shows will be at are North American in Springfield Ma, MAPACA in Harrisburg PA,  NorthEast in Syracuse, Ny. and New Hampshie Sheep and Wool in Hopkinton NH.

Meghan has purchased her first alpaca. Trevor came to live with the Cynjim herd Feb 8th. He settled in very well. Now if Meghan could only come up with a name for her farm.....

Chickens are coming soon! Cynjim went in with Elf-Paca Meadows and ordered lots of chicks. They should be arriving in March. I can't wait!

Cynjim made out okay with the ice storm. We lost power for a week and a tree fell on our truck (only left a few scratches), but other than that we made out pretty good. The holidays have come & gone, Meg turned 12, and things are settling down.

About Moki....I left that one hanging. Moki figured out the girls were getting better hay than the geldings were getting. He found a hole at the bottom of the girls barn that he could fit his head through. Needless to say he couldn't figure out how to get his head back out. After Meg and I 'freed' him, he tried it again. We put large rocks in front of the hole, but the next day they were moved, so we put larger rocks there. So far it has worked.

Now the scare, a few weeks ago, Chantilley 'choked'. She was eating her pellets, and the next thing you now she was thrashing around. We thought she had a seizure. I then watched her gasp for air, and realized it was choke. While I rubbed her neck, Meg ran and got the phone & the vet's number. While we were calling the vet, the throat rubbing worked, and she was able to catch her breath. We no longer feed and move on. We watch everyone eat. Amy (the vet) said the pellets most likely got caught just right for her not to be able to breath. She used vet terms, but that was the gist of it. It hasn't happened since, but we are always on watch!
